Sutton Policing Update - Burglar arrested |
||
|
Today, I was on patrol in Sutton whilst carrying out my role this weekend as Gold Commander for South Area BCU, overseeing policing across Bromley, Croydon and Sutton, when a series of calls were received reporting a male breaking into properties and sheds in the Sutton North and The Wrythe wards.
Officers quickly attended, gathered witness information and circulated a description and direction of travel. Being nearby, I went to the area to search for the suspect and supporting the ongoing response.
During the search, I was flagged down by a resident whose shed had just been broken into. Working alongside my colleague, we quickly established a containment area and were supported by Response officers and a dog unit. Following a coordinated search, we found the suspect hiding in a nearby garden and was arrested.
I know burglary remains a significant concern for many residents. Beyond the financial loss, it can leave people feeling violated and unsafe in their own homes. That is why I am particularly pleased that we were able to stop this individual before any further harm was caused and his activity was brought to a swift conclusion.
This is a great example of the difference that timely information, proactive policing and strong community support can make. I would like to thank the members of the public who spoke to officers, provided information and assisted us during the search. Your support was instrumental in helping us locate and arrest the suspect.
We will continue to target those who commit burglary and other offences that have a direct impact on our communities. Sutton remains a safe borough, and we are committed to keeping it that way.
Please ensure sheds, garages and outbuildings are kept secure, particularly as the evenings become darker. Consider using good quality locks, security lighting, alarms or CCTV where appropriate, and mark valuable property with a forensic marking product or unique identifier. If you see suspicious behaviour, please report it. In an emergency or if a crime is in progress, always call 999. | ||
